As Canada’s leading insurer, Sun Life offers health, life, and group coverage. To better engage key demographics, they produce online product videos. I was brought in to update and streamline their visual content, ensuring alignment with brand standards and an extensive colour palette. Of the five-plus boards developed, we’ll focus on three.

Each project began with a script that lacked visual direction. Working closely with the producer, I proposed execution ideas and presented rapid concept sketches. Most boards featured slick, vector-based designs that were finalized and imported directly into After Effects. I also supplied detailed scene notes tailored to the animator’s needs.

FastForward PlanProtect promoted a new digital claims and review system designed to prevent fraud and keep premiums low. The visuals were bold, clean, and easy to digest.

Scotiabank + Sun Life highlighted a new in-branch insurance offering. By leveraging shared brand shapes, I created a strong visual metaphor for the partnership.

Game Changers showcased innovations in client engagement and marked a visual shift—vectors supported the design rather than led it. FX drew directly from the Sun Life brand mark.

All vector boards were designed with a 2x3 crop in mind. For “Game Changers,” which featured green-screen actors extending beyond that frame, I depicted the full HD width with crop marks for clarity.

About Paul

From an early age, I was influenced by my father’s books on mechanics and architecture, along with his work in construction. Systems and patterns became part of my makeup and still shape how I see the world. While I explored creative expression through several mediums, it was my introduction to the Macintosh in high school that set me on the path to digital design.

PaulGrantDesigns reflects the foundational aspects of my 20+ years in design — from branding and illustration to campaigns, storyboards, iconography, and infographics.
